  3. I spend a lot of time. well, not afraid – not fear so much – worried.

  5. It’s not stupid,
  6.  
  7. My Mum and Dad don’t know,
  8.  
  9. they say It’s stupid: but that’s because they just don’t know.
  10.  
  11. In their day
  12.  
  13. It was easy getting mates – they still come around, all their old mates from school for drinks and things.
  14.  
  15. But it’s not the same, not now it’s not: and I don’t know
  16.  
  17. what I’d do if one day I woke up
  18.  
  19. and didn’t have no mates.
  20.  
  21. They just don’t know how hard it is.
  22.  
  23. The other day, your magazine, it had this quiz:
  24.  
  25. ‘Are you the sort the other girls want to be with? – Find out!’
  26.  
  27. I got all the answers wrong – I couldn’t move
  28.  
  29. I couldn’t breath,
  30.  
  31. I didn’t know!
  32.  
  33. And in this other magazine, it had this other quiz on clothes and
  34.  
  35. all about ‘Do You Look Good Enough To Want To Have Around?’
  36.  
  37. And God I didn’t have,
  38.  
  39. – well hardly none of it
  40.  
  41. And Dad, he doesn’t listen when I tell,
  42.  
  43. I tell him and he just gets really mad:
  44.  
  45. And Mum won’t do my skirt.
  46.  
  47. Look I said, I can’t I can’t go to school like that.
  48.  
  49. And Mum gets cross,
  50.  
  51. I try and tell her,
  52.  
  53. Time and time again, I really try.
  54.  
  55. Then Dad says, ‘Can’t? You can’t?
  56.  
  57. Oh yes, you can, you Will!’
  58.  
  59. So please don’t print this letter, ‘cos
  60.  
  61. If all my mates found out
  62.  
  63. I don’t know what I’d do.
  64.  
  65. But if you could
  66.  
  67. Please, please write back –
  68.  
  69. It’s just that I don’t know what to do
  70.  
  71. And you’re the only one who understands
  72.  
  73.  
  74.
